SD Cards

Warning

The stock microSD cards (those that get shipped with the device) cause a lot of problems and can get corrupted/defect any time. They are very cheap quality and unreliable. Change them as soon as possible. Please refer to the SD card section.

The R36S has 2 microSD card slots. Users can choose between a 1 card and a 2 card setup (explained in most guides). TF2 slot does not recognize every SD card brand.

Recommended SD card sizes

1 card Setup: 128GB

2 card Setup:

TF1: 16-32GB
TF2: 64-128GB

TF SD card slots

TF1 = OS Card Slot (right) - can store the firmware + roms
TF2 = Roms Card Slot (left) - only for roms

Dual SD card guide

Advantages of a dual SD card setup:

If the OS somehow gets corrupted or defect or if you break something while tinkering, it's easier to replace/re-flashing the cfw. No need to re-copy all the roms/scraped images.
Your saves/retroarch configs are stored on the roms card. They are safe there in case a update goes wrong or the OS card fails.
You can easily swap between cards, if you have more than one rom/OS card.
You can swap rom cards between devices that have different display panels.
