Review by LikeALincolnLog42[edit]
I’m pretty impressed for the price ($20 or $30 on Temu after a coupon). Should maybe have gone with R36S—and from Ali Express—now that I know how much more popular and supported those are. But it was right there, so…
Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and OG Game Boy games look great. This unit handles systems up to—but not including—Dreamcast. The sound stutters quite a bit in the Flycast emulator for Dreamcast. Otherwise it’s nearly perfect for all the other systems up to the DC.
The screen is bright and crisp. The colors are good, and it looks good even at a wide viewing angle.
Battery life seems good so far based an hour or more of continuous play.
It uses EmuELEC for the Linux OS, Emulation Station for the front end (the front is is what’s for browsing systems and games), and finally RetroArch plus Libretto cores for the emulation.
The analog sticks are nice. On the other hand, the d pad is a bit stiff, has too much travel for my taste, and registers a direction press that I didn’t want. Note that I personally occasionally experience phantom direction presses on other d pads such as in Tetris on the PlayStation 5, so take my criticism of the d pad for what you will.
Select games are preloaded on the microSD card. The sub-Reddit for the similar R36S recommends that you replace the included 64 GB microSD card as soon as possible for a more reliable one. I would also highly recommend doing that. You’ll save yourself a lot of potential headaches such as losing saves or unexpected issues, plus you might even get better performance using a name-brand, high-quality MicroSD card instead of the one included, the maximum memory card size is reportedly 256 GB.
In conclusion, as I mentioned before, all the games and systems that I’ve tested on it work great up to—but not including—Dreamcast.

Firmware[edit]
Runs some modified EmuELEC 4.5 ODROID-GO Advance version (probably on the internal eMMC).
